Presentation of the FIFARMA W.A.I.T. Indicator 2023

On February 14, 2024, the Latin American Federation of the Pharmaceutical Industry (FIFARMA) unveiled the second edition of the FIFARMA W.A.I.T. Indicator 2023, which examines access to innovative cancer and rare disease medications in Latin America. This study revealed that Latin American patients face long waits, with average times ranging from 1.9 to over 4.5 years from FDA approval to effective availability. Of the 228 medications analyzed, only 130 had regulatory approval in any country in the region, with only 86 widely available. Collaboration between the pharmaceutical industry, government agencies, and patient associations was emphasized as crucial for improving equitable access to medical innovation.
