FIFARMA Joins the Alliance for the Elimination of HIV in the Americas
To reach the goal of eliminating HIV by 2030 in the Americas, FIFARMA signed its membership in the Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) Alliance for the Elimination of HIV during the AIDS 2026 Conference in Rio de Janeiro. This step responds to a clear need: Latin America faces the challenge of accelerating the reduction of new cases, which demands collaboration across all sectors. What Is the Alliance for the Elimination of HIV in the Americas? It is a regional political and technical platform created by PAHO to coordinate all the actors involved in the HIV response, with the goal of: The initiative is part of the “Health for All” regional agenda and is aligned with PAHO’s Elimination Initiative, which seeks to eliminate more than 30 communicable diseases in the region by 2030. A Region Moving at Two Speeds: The Data Behind the Urgency This is the regional picture according to PAHO and UNAIDS figures (2025): Latin America These figures show that treatment is working and saving lives. However, prevention still isn’t reducing new infections enough, which have remained largely stalled since 2022. The Caribbean Between 2010 and 2024, the Caribbean reduced new infections by 30% and deaths by 65%. This is proof that the trend can be reversed when policies, financing, and collaboration align. Why Cooperation Is the Missing Piece?
